Continued Education
by Lance Walker
Continued education and improvement is part of the culture at RPM and we encourage all those we come in contact with to be continually improving. One of the keys to being competitive in the business world is staying informed and continually learning new things. I was recently made aware of MITOPENCOURSEWARE (OCW), which is a collection of course materials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology including lecture notes, online text books, projects and examples, and even video.
Most of the courses do not include all of these materials, but nearly all contain lecture notes. The materials are completely free and some even include assignments and/or exams you can take to see how well you have picked up the material. The collection represents nearly every course taught in both the undergraduate and graduate programs, which totals over 2,000 courses. You can’t earn credits or a certificate for participation, and you don’t get access to a professor or classmates, but this is still a huge breakthrough in offering higher education to the masses for free.
Since you don’t have access to a professor or classmates, learning this way could get frustrating if you have a question that you can’t seem to find an answer to. To help with this, OCW has created a study group platform called OpenStudy to help students from all over the world connect and help one another. On the platform you can join different study groups, post questions, answer other users questions, and earn levels and medals for participation.
I think a little refresher on game theory would do me good, so I have my eye on Game Theory for Managers. Go take a look. You might find something you have always wanted to learn.
